偶像崇拝には気をつけよう
「あなたには、わたし以外に、ほかの神々があってはならない。」 （出エジプト20:3）
キリスト教会と言えど、色々なスタイルの教会があります。
様々なスタイルで礼拝されることは、本当の神さまだけが礼拝されているのであれば、それは問題ではありませんし、むしろ多種多様な形を神さまご自身が受け入れてくださり、喜ばれることでしょう。
しかし、近年のキリスト教会の中には、ルーツはイエス様の十字架の血潮にあると言い、礼拝堂に神社の鳥居を置いている教会があったり、ある牧師は奉納を大切にするというコンセプトで、神社で奉納演奏をしています。聖書を土台とするプロテスタント信仰とはかけ離れたものとなっています。
なぜ神さまは他の神々があってはならないと仰られているのでしょうか。別の角度から考えてみましょう。私たちは一般常識として、人の名前を間違えてはいけないと認識しています。日本人は特に読み方も、漢字もです。間違えたら失礼なことをしているという認識があります。
実はこれと同じで、聖書の神さまもお一人であり、決して間違えてはいけないお方なのです。神ではないものを神と呼び、神ではないものを神として崇めることは神さまが喜ばれず、私たちが間違えられて傷つくように、神さまも私たちの偶像崇拝に悲しく思われるお方なのです。
あなたを唯一の存在として造られたお方は、唯一の神さまです。この神さまが礼拝されるべきお方として認識しましょう。
Beware of Idolatry
“You shall have no other gods before Me.” (Exodus 20:3)
Within the Christian Church, there are many different styles of worship. As long as it is the true God who is being worshipped, the variety of styles is not an issue. In fact, God likely accepts and delights in the great diversity of ways His people approach Him.
However, in recent years, some churches—while claiming their roots lie in the blood of Jesus’ cross—have placed Shinto torii gates within their sanctuaries. There are even pastors who, under the concept of “honoring offerings,” perform dedicatory music at Shinto shrines. These practices are far removed from the Protestant faith, which is built upon the foundation of the Bible.
Why does God say we must have no other gods? Let’s consider this from another perspective. In our daily lives, we recognize that it is common courtesy not to get someone’s name wrong. In Japan, especially, we take great care with both the pronunciation and the kanji characters of a name. We understand that making a mistake is disrespectful.
It is the same with God. The God of the Bible is the One and Only; He is not someone we should “misidentify.” To call something “god” when it is not, or to revere something that is not God, does not please Him. Just as we feel hurt when we are mistaken for someone else, God feels sorrow when we turn to idolatry.
The One who created you as a unique individual is the one and only God. Let us recognize Him as the only One worthy of our worship.
