“オバデヤの幻。神である主は、エドムについてこう言われる。──私たちは主から知らせを聞いた。使節が国々の間に送られてこう言った、と。「さあ、立ち上がれ。エドムと戦おう」──
「見よ。わたしはおまえを国々の中で小さい者、ひどく蔑まれる者とする。
岩の裂け目に住み、高い所を住まいとする者よ。おまえの高慢は、おまえ自身を欺いている。おまえは心の中で言っている。『だれが私を地に引きずり降ろせるのか』と。
鷲のように高く上っても、星々の間に巣を作っても、わたしは、おまえをそこから引きずり降ろす。──主のことば。
盗人がおまえのところに来るなら、しかも夜に、荒らす者が来るなら、──いかに、おまえは荒らされることか──彼らは欲しい分だけ盗んで行くではないか。ぶどうを収穫する者がおまえのところに来るなら、彼らは取り残しの実を残さないだろうか。
ああ、エサウは捜し出され、その秘宝は見つけ出される。
おまえと同盟を組む者たちがみな、おまえを国境まで送り返し、親しい友がおまえを欺いて征服する。おまえのパンを食べていた者が、おまえの足もとに罠を仕掛ける。こんなおまえに英知はない。
その日には、──主のことば──わたしは、エドムから知恵ある者たちを、エサウの山から英知を消し去らないであろうか。
テマンよ、おまえの勇士たちは気をくじかれる。虐殺され、エサウの山から一人残らず断ち切られる。
おまえの兄弟、ヤコブへの暴虐のために、恥がおまえをおおい、おまえは永遠に断たれる。
他国人がエルサレムの財宝を奪い去り、外国人がその門に押し入り、エルサレムをくじ引きにして取ったその日、おまえは素知らぬ顔で立っていた。おまえもまた、彼らのうちの一人のようであった。
おまえは兄弟の災難の日に、それを見ていてはならない。ユダの子らの滅びの日に、彼らのことで喜んではならない。その苦難の日に大口をたたいてはならない。
おまえは彼らのわざわいの日に、わたしの民の門に入ってはならない。ほかでもないおまえが、彼の破局の日に、そのわざわいを眺めていてはならない。彼の破局の日に、彼らの財宝に手を伸ばしてはならない。
その逃れる者を断つために、別れ道に立ちふさがってはならない。その苦難の日に、彼らの生き残った者を引き渡してはならない。
なぜなら、主の日がすべての国々に近づいているからだ。おまえは、自分がしたように、自分にもされる。おまえの報いは、おまえの頭上に返る。
おまえたちがわたしの聖なる山で飲んだように、すべての国々も絶えず飲み続け、飲んだり、すすったりする。彼らはまるで、いなかった者のようになる。
しかし、シオンの山には、逃れの者がいるようになる。そこは聖となり、ヤコブの家は自分の領地を所有するようになる。
ヤコブの家は火となり、ヨセフの家は炎となる。エサウの家は刈り株となり、火と炎は刈り株に燃えつき、これを焼き尽くす。エサウの家には生き残る者がいなくなる。」主がこう告げられたのである。
ネゲブの人々はエサウの山を、シェフェラの人々はペリシテ人の地を占領する。また彼らはエフライムの野とサマリアの野を占領し、ベニヤミンはギルアデを占領する。
イスラエルの人々に属する、この一群の捕囚の民はカナン人の地をツァレファテまで占領し、セファラデにいるエルサレムからの捕囚の民はネゲブの町々を占領する。
救う者たちは、エサウの山をさばくため、シオンの山に上る。こうして、王国は主のものとなる。”

Obadiah’s Vision
1The vision of Obadiah.
This is what the Sovereign Lord says about Edom—
We have heard a message from the Lord:
An envoy was sent to the nations to say,
“Rise, let us go against her for battle”—
2“See, I will make you small among the nations;
you will be utterly despised.
3The pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rocks
and make your home on the heights,
you who say to yourself,
‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’
4Though you soar like the eagle
and make your nest among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,”
declares the Lord.
5“If thieves came to you,
if robbers in the night—
oh, what a disaster awaits you!—
would they not steal only as much as they wanted?
If grape pickers came to you,
would they not leave a few grapes?
6But how Esau will be ransacked,
his hidden treasures pillaged!
7All your allies will force you to the border;
your friends will deceive and overpower you;
those who eat your bread will set a trap for you,
but you will not detect it.
8“In that day,” declares the Lord,
“will I not destroy the wise men of Edom,
those of understanding in the mountains of Esau?
9Your warriors, Teman, will be terrified,
and everyone in Esau’s mountains
will be cut down in the slaughter.
10Because of the violence against your brother Jacob,
you will be covered with shame;
you will be destroyed forever.
11On the day you stood aloof
while strangers carried off his wealth
and foreigners entered his gates
and cast lots for Jerusalem,
you were like one of them.
12You should not gloat over your brother
in the day of his misfortune,
nor rejoice over the people of Judah
in the day of their destruction,
nor boast so much
in the day of their trouble.
13You should not march through the gates of my people
in the day of their disaster,
nor gloat over them in their calamity
in the day of their disaster,
nor seize their wealth
in the day of their disaster.
14You should not wait at the crossroads
to cut down their fugitives,
nor hand over their survivors
in the day of their trouble.
15“The day of the Lord is near
for all nations.
As you have done, it will be done to you;
your deeds will return upon your own head.
16Just as you drank on my holy hill,
so all the nations will drink continually;
they will drink and drink
and be as if they had never been.
17But on Mount Zion will be deliverance;
it will be holy,
and Jacob will possess his inheritance.
18Jacob will be a fire
and Joseph a flame;
Esau will be stubble,
and they will set him on fire and destroy him.
There will be no survivors
from Esau.”
The Lord has spoken.
19People from the Negev will occupy
the mountains of Esau,
and people from the foothills will possess
the land of the Philistines.
They will occupy the fields of Ephraim and Samaria,
and Benjamin will possess Gilead.
20This company of Israelite exiles who are in Canaan
will possess the land as far as Zarephath;
the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad
will possess the towns of the Negev.
21Deliverers will go up on Mount Zion
to govern the mountains of Esau.
And the kingdom will be the Lord’s.
