霊的成長を目指してー隣人との関係における成長ー
「そのとき、イエスはこう言われた。『父よ、彼らをお赦しください。彼らは、自分が何をしているのかがわかっていないのです。』」 （ルカ23:34）
前回は愛における霊的成長について記しました。今回はその中でも、隣人との関係における霊的成長を見ていきたいと思います。私たちは様々な人間関係の中に置かれていますが、その人との関係性も様々でまったく同じ関係性の人はいません。ここが一つのポイントになってくるのです。
私たちの関係性は、愛を示しやすい人、愛を示しても伝わらない人、愛せないという人もいるかと思います。私たちの愛は完全ではありませんから、イエス様のようにすべての人を愛することはできません。しかし、私たちにもできることがあります。それを冒頭のイエス様の十字架での祈りから学ぶことができます。
イエス様が冒頭のみことばのように祈られたのは、イエス様に敵対し続け、イエス様を罵り、イエス様の殺害計画を企て
た、暗殺者ともなった、ユダヤ教指導者たちでした。この祈りから、イエス様は敵対視されることはあっても、ご自分が敵視されることはなく、愛を貫かれたことに気付かされます。
私たちはつい、自分のフィルターで隣人を見て、敵視することもあり、嫌うこともあります。愛を示すことができない私たちではありますが、イエス様のように私たちが、隣人を敵視しないようにすることはできます。そのために、隣人との間に、十字架を置いて、十字架を通して関係を築いていきましょう。
Aiming for Spiritual Growth: Growing in Our Relationships with Neighbors
“Then Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.'” (Luke 23:34)
Last time, we wrote about spiritual growth in love. This time, I would like to look specifically at spiritual growth in our relationships with our neighbors. We are placed in a wide variety of human relationships; however, each relationship is unique, and no two are exactly the same. This is a crucial point.
In our relationships, there may be those to whom it is easy to show love, those to whom our love does not seem to get through even when we show it, and those whom we find difficult to love. Because our love is imperfect, we cannot love everyone the way Jesus does. However, there is something we can do. We can learn what that is from Jesus’ prayer on the cross at the beginning of this message.
The ones for whom Jesus offered the prayer quoted above were the Jewish leaders—those who had consistently opposed Him, reviled Him, plotted His death, and essentially became His assassins. From this prayer, we realize that while Jesus was viewed with hostility, He never viewed others as His enemies, and He held fast to His love to the very end.
We tend to look at our neighbors through our own filters, sometimes viewing them with hostility or dislike. While we may fail to show love, we can at least choose not to view our neighbors as enemies, just like Jesus. To do this, let us place the cross between ourselves and our neighbors, and build our relationships through the cross.
